The Power of Singing Bowls

The Power of Singing Bowls

Stress is your body's natural response to a threat. It’s part of your fight or flight survival mechanism and therefore can be a very useful response. However, too much stress for extended periods can cause physical and mental tension that has a negative impact on you and your ability to stay healthy. Your whole system (mind, body and soul) needs time to relax, allowing this tension to be released. There is a distinction, however, between the relaxation achieved by sitting on your sofa with a cup of tea and deep relaxation that extends into every cell of your body offering:

• a reduction in tiredness as everyday life is managed without excessive tension

• improved performance (work, sport or music) through greater self-awareness and control of tension

• pain relief from e.g. headaches and backache due to reduced tension

• increased pain threshold

• greater ability to breathe effectively and cope with stress

• improved sleep as you are able to achieve a calm and peaceful state

• improved self-confidence through increased self-awareness and ability to cope with daily life

• improved personal relationships - it is easier to relate with other people when you are relaxed and self-confident

Treatments using singing bowls swiftly achieve this state of deep relaxation. The harmonic sounds calm your mind and the vibrations spread throughout the more than 1 trillion cells in your body. In this state, a sense of safety and security is achieved creating the ideal conditions for you to tap into your unused energy resources enabling the positive effects of regeneration, self-healing, self-empowerment, inspiration and creativity.

The following imagery describing Singing Bowl Massage is taken from Singing Bowls for Health and Inner Harmony by Peter Hess who developed the Singing Bowl Method used at SOUNDfeelings.

If you drop a pebble into a pond, concentric waves spread over the whole pond and set every molecule of water into motion. Something similar happens during a Singing Bowl Massage in our body, which consists of up to 80 % liquid. Pleasant vibrations are travelling into the body and spread in concentric waves, giving a pleasant cell massage to the more than 100 trillion cells in the body. When the organs and tissues are free of blockages, the sound waves spread unimpeded and exit through the toes, the fingertips and the tips of the hair.

However, our bodies are usually not free of blockages. Through unresolved problems, stress, and worries, we build blockages that we perceive as very unpleasant, for example, a pain in our joints or as hardening of certain muscle groups.

Or I can come to you.

  • How long does the treatment last?

The treatments are individual and last up to 90 minutes (initial appointment) with subsequent sessions lasting up to 75 minutes.

  • What do I need to do before the treatment?

Drink plenty of water on the day of your treatment as it will help you to absorb the sound and vibrations better. You will experience the treatment more profoundly.

  • What can I expect from a Singing Bowl Session?

Your first session takes a little longer (90 mins) so that we can talk about your wishes and needs, look at the singing bowls and talk about their effects.

Then you can enjoy the sound and vibrations and relax.

You might like to have a short follow-up relating to your experience.

  • Do I have to undress?

No. The singing bowls are gently placed on your clothed body or swimwear, if the session takes place in warm water.

  • What happens during the treatment?

You lie on a massage table or on the floor in a comfortable position. For a sound bath, you lie on a large magic bean bag or in warm water.

The singing bowls are gently placed on or around you after which I tap them with a soft, small mallet to create the sounds and vibrations.

Then … it’s your time to relax.

  • What do I have to do?

You don't have to do anything and I remain with you throughout the session.

You can just let yourself fall completely into the sensation of the sounds and vibrations. Then relax deeply and float away…
